Your School Clothes:
Where Do They End Up?
As of June 2023, Lowes has successfully processed and recycled an impressive 7 tonnes of old schoolwear through the state-of-the-art BlockTexx Facility. By utilizing the innovative BlockTexx technology, Lowes has taken a significant stride in reducing resource waste associated with schoolwear.
This cutting-edge technology excels at efficiently separating fibres, allowing them to be converted back into high-quality raw materials that can be recycled and repurposed. Through this sustainable approach, Lowes is not only minimizing the environmental impact of discarded school uniforms but also promoting a circular economy by ensuring the resources are given a second life.
With their commitment to implementing forward-thinking solutions, Lowes continues to pave the way for a greener future and sets an inspiring example for other companies in the industry to follow.
Separation of Fibre Technology
BlockTexx has developed technology to separate polyester and cotton materials, regardless of color or condition. This enables the materials to be turned back into raw materials. These raw materials can be used to create new products for various industries.
The recovered materials are transformed into high-quality plastic pellets and polyester fiber for textiles, packaging, and building products.
BlockTexx leads the global movement towards a circular economy, prioritising the planet by diverting textile waste from landfill and creating sustainable products.
Designing for a Sustainable Future
Lowes and blockTexx are working in collaboration with our Head Product Development and Procurement Manager Debro Vo to design in mind with highly recyclable materials as part of the design and development process, with the first meeting to look at substituting nylon buttons for polyester buttons, this will aid block texx in the cycle economy.
Debra Vo is also in negotiations regarding our sublimated polos to use recycled ranges moving forward.
